The Story

The best solution to stop the ongoing spread of childhood obesity across the nation is to have parents and school systems enforce healthier eating habits, encourage children to get out and be active, and to limit the amount of time they are allowed to use technology. I feel that these are the building blocks for the overall problem of childhood obesity, and that if these few things are put into place that children won’t be in the perfect shape but they won’t have to deal with being overweight or obese either. There are many other aspects from different fields and discipline that play a role. For instance, from the education field again I expect them to make physical education a required class in elementary if not every day, at least once a week. But they need to have recess every day for a hour, making the kids perform physical activity on a daily basis. I also expect for them to continue the trend of providing healthier foods in the cafeteria instead of pizza and cheese burgers, and making fruits and vegetables apart of each meal. From the advertising and marketing fields I expect for them to start making commercials to bring childhood obesity to the light to help promote a solution to the problem. I also expect for them to slow down the advertising of fast foods and start promoting healthier living on the television and on radio stations. From communities I expect for them to provide children with outlets such as Boy’s and Girl’s clubs for children to become more active. Lastly from the parents I expect for them to do pretty much the same as the school systems with the food and physical activity levels, but I also expect them to slow down their children’s uses of technology.
